The Hand of God.
It looks like a fireball has been travelling through the sky and has been described as "the hand of God". It's actually a cloud photographed earlier this week on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Quite common, the cloud appeared like this was because light from the sun caught onto a clump of cloud at a lower altitude just as it came into contact with cloud higher up.

The mysteries of ancient science
The study of ancient science, a relatively new academic subject, holds surprising promise for understanding history. More than a thousand years before the first telescopes, Babylonian astronomers tracked the motion of planets across the night sky using simple arithmetic. But a newly translated text reveals that these ancient stargazers also used a far more advanced method, one that foreshadows the development of calculus over a thousand years later. Astroarchaeologist Matthieu Ossendrijver of Humboldt University in Berlin translated an unstudied text on Jupiter and discovered the Babylonians tracked the gas giant’s path across the sky with a geometric technique—the trapezoid procedure—that’s a cornerstone of modern calculus. Until now, this method was believed to have been developed in medieval Europe, some 1,400 years later.

A former Soviet agent says he has found evidence that Joseph Stalin spied on Mao Zedong, among others, by analyzing excrement to construct psychological portraits. According to Russian newspaper reports, in the 1940s Stalin's secret police had set up a special department to get its hands on people's feces to analyse samples of foreign leaders' stools. "For example, if they detected high levels of amino acid Tryptophan, they concluded that person was calm and approachable.'in December 1949, Soviet spies used this system to evaluate the Chinese leader Mao Zedong who was on a visit to Moscow. They had allegedly installed special toilets for Mao, which were connected not to sewers, but to secret boxes. Once Mao's stools had been scrutinized and studied, Stalin reportedly poo poo-ed the idea of signing an agreement with him.
India Republic Day Parade
India celebrated its 67th Republic Day on 26 January with a grand parade. Republic Day honors the adoption of the Indian constitution in 1950. The news surrounding this year's parade has been mostly about the animals. Dogs will march after a gap of 26 years along with the mounted camel battalion. Would love to see it.

Spanish reality show follows aspiring nuns
A new Spanish reality TV show will follow aspiring nuns entering convents in Spain. The program, called I Want To Be A Nun, will follow five young women as they experience the day-to-day realities of the vocation, The women all feel they have a religious calling, and will spend six weeks with the resident nuns, taking part in activities including caring for hundreds of children, living in a 500-year-old closed order and working with missionaries in the Bolivian jungle.

A Serbian woman living as a hermit inherited almost a million Australian dollars ($703,000, £490,000) from her husband - only to give it all away. Marija Zlatic, 86, lives in a mud hut in mountainous eastern Serbia and heard five years ago that her estranged husband, living in Australia, had died. She tasked a neighbor with finding out more information in 2011, and learned of her fortune late last year. Marija has since donated all the money to the community that looks after her. Amazing
The Negro Motorist Green Book was an annual guidebook for African-American travelers in the United States. It was originated and published by New York City mail carrier Victor H. Green from 1936 to 1966, during the Jim Crow era, when racial discrimination was widespread. Although discrimination and poverty limited African-American car ownership, many middle-class blacks took to driving to avoid segregation on public transportation. Green intended the book "to give the Negro traveler information that will keep him from running into difficulties". It became the definitive Jim Crow travel guide for blacks, but was little known outside the African-American community.

Anyone out there interpret dreams? I had a dream in which I was tuning a new guitar and one of the strings broke. 6th or E. This seemed to disturb me more than goblins or crashes or being naked in public or any of the scary crap we dream. I'm awake now, seemingly, and am still disturbed by this tiny little annoyance.
What might be the symbology here?
