Joseph Campbell, well known academic mythologist, rejected the concept of God of the major religions.  God ‘the father,’ the ‘personal’ god was a common myth of primitive cultures developed in an effort to deal with the many frightening conditions of their lives.  No such god exists.  God, he believed, was the impersonal force of the universe that gives life to all things, the god of life and death, a god whom we cannot possibly know (St. Thomas Aquinas aggress).  Often criticized, his work was a major influence on George Lucas’ Star Wars.  Lucas’ all powerful ‘force’ was Campbell’s ‘force as god.’

A couple in Nevada digging in their backyard revealed nearly perfectly preserved $20 gold coins with liberty head designs on the front, dated from the 1890s. They found eight cans containing 1,427 coins - with a face value of $27,980 but worth an estimated $10 million today.

jpr: Its been 88 deg F all week here but the leaves are turning and collecting on the ground! Just a few but its unmistakably fall. Put me a cheap temporary orange plastic rollout fence for leaf collection until they can be disposed later. Shazaam!

family overdose

It happened on Wednesday on Prospect Street in East Liverpool near a school bus stop.

An East Liverpool Police Officer says he witnessed a dark Ford Explorer driving erratically.

As a school bus was discharging students, the vehicle in question began to brake hard and skidded to a stop.

The officer made contact with the driver who was identified as 47-year-old, James Lee Acord. According to the police report his head was bobbing back and forth, and his speech was difficult to understand.

Acord stated that he was taking his female passenger, 50-year-old Rhonda Pasek to the hospital.

Eventually, both of the adults were completely unconscious in the car and had to be revived by Narcan. A drug commonly used to reverse an opiate overdose.

In the backseat was a 4-year-old boy, later identified as Pasek's grandson according to city officials. Columbiana County Children's Services was called.
