Coketown

In 1940 a chemical  plant that converts coal to coke for steel making had a town built next to it for their workers. "Coketown" was the name given by the residents who lived inside the  dust, smoke, and odorous fumes from the 24/7 pollution of the day.

The plant is still in operation today after massive pollution controls were installed The town is long gone.  Its place is occupied by a mega  million $$ storage facility for gas and oil drilling material and equipment.

guy bought a house in an 'historical district' . It had a silo that needed repair. The dude found it cheaper to tear the structure down. Unfortunately, when he sold it the recorder noted the silo missing. It cost the original owner a cool "$100,000" to replace the silo. Regardez.

built in 1935....shut down about 10 years ago....looks in process of being purchased!
Plant is about 1/10 mile long.  Might just be jobs coming back from Overseas?

charles lindbergh and lady of loretto

In 1927 Lindbergh made the first solo flight from NY to Paris. He carried a medal of our Lady of Loretto on the dash of his plane. The tapping of this medallion from the plane's  engine vibration keep him awake and alert during his history making flight.
