In the 20th century, the United States endured two world wars and other traumatic and expensive military conflicts; the Depression; a dozen or so recessions and financial panics; oil shocks; a flu epidemic; and the resignation of a disgraced president. Yet the Dow rose from 66 to 27000

"There is an IOOF lodge in Washington Ct that has the same look as one in Colliers, Wv.
A bit surprising?" JPR

Impossible colors
Residing in the visual cortex of our brain, the two opponent neurons function in a binary way: red-green opponent can signal either red or green, while blue-yellow opponent signal either blue or yellow. These neurons cannot signal both the colors at a time. The neurons won’t let you see blue and yellow at a time nor red and green, the combination of which is known as impossible colors.

Boredom and Homo Erectus.
Zig-zag patterns found on a fossilized shell in Indonesia may be the earliest engraving by a human ancestor. The engraving is at least 430,000 years old, and done by the long-extinct Homo erectus. The oldest man-made markings previously found were about 130,000 years old. it could "rewrite human history". The engravings were made before fossilization, when the mussel was fresh between 430,000 and 540,000 years ago. The discovery could confirm theories that Homo erectus had significant manual dexterity and greater cognitive abilities than previously thought. If nothing else it proves boredom is a long standing human problem.

Time of Roses by Thomas Hood
It was not in the Winter
Our loving lot was cast;
It was the time of roses—
We pluck'd them as we pass'd!
That churlish season never frown'd
On early lovers yet:
O no—the world was newly crown'd
With flowers when first we met!
'Twas twilight, and I bade you go,
But still you held me fast;
It was the time of roses—
We pluck'd them as we pass'd!

Only the Irish.
Shay Bradley had a dying wish that had his family and friends laughing at his funeral in Dublin. The former Irish defence forces veteran pretends to be trapped inside his coffin and is heard knocking frantically, trying to get out. Coming from a speaker on the ground his voice boomed from his grave: "Hello, hello, hello... let me out!" There is then some swearing which sends the mourners into fits of laughter. Hysterical.
