The Mouse on The Barroom Floor

Some Guinness was spilled on the barroom floor
when the pub was shut for the night.
Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse
and stood in the pale moonlight.
He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar,'Bring on the goddam cat!'

autumn leaves from the treetops

Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the deathbed whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

No artist has left a loftier or more penetrating personal testament than Rembrandt van Rijn. In more than 90 portraits of himself that date from the outset of his career in the 1620s to the year of his death in 1669

jpr: The Dutch master was renowned for capturing the essence of a person with the stokes of a paint brush . Is there not a persistent trace of his immortal soul in these images produced over 4 decades?

A plane at hyper speed  compresses most air in front which then expands aft. The vaporization of the condensed moisture is a bit behind in time which during decompression of the air forms a cloud  temporarily.

May The Force Be With You = useless factoid.

Joseph Campbell, well known academic mythologist, rejected the concept of God of the major religions.  God ‘the father,’ the ‘personal’ god was a common myth of primitive cultures developed in an effort to deal with the many frightening conditions of their lives.  No such god exists.  God, he believed, was the impersonal force of the universe that gives life to all things, the god of life and death, a god whom we cannot possibly know (St. Thomas Aquinas aggress).  Often criticized, his work was a major influence on George Lucas’ Star Wars.  Lucas’ all powerful ‘force’ was Campbell’s ‘force as god.’

This raises lots of troubling ???

Buddhism, a non theisitc religion

The Buddha did not believe in God, the soul, or salvation.  He concluded, after years of searching, that there 'was no evidence.'  And he may have been the first proponent of the god myth. Argued by many contemporary scholars, the myth holds that primitive man created the idea of all controlling ‘supreme beings’ as a means of gaining some influence over the fears and mysteries of their lives through prayer and sacrifice.  Instead, the Buddha believed that the problems of mankind were the product of human behavior, and thus curable by man and 'the way.'

family overdose

It happened on Wednesday on Prospect Street in East Liverpool near a school bus stop.
An East Liverpool Police Officer says he witnessed a dark Ford Explorer driving erratically.
As a school bus was discharging students, the vehicle in question began to brake hard and skidded to a stop.
The officer made contact with the driver who was identified as 47-year-old, James Lee Acord. According to the police report his head was bobbing back and forth, and his speech was difficult to understand.
Acord stated that he was taking his female passenger, 50-year-old Rhonda Pasek to the hospital.
Eventually, both of the adults were completely unconscious in the car and had to be revived by Narcan. A drug commonly used to reverse an opiate overdose.
In the backseat was a 4-year-old boy, later identified as Pasek's grandson according to city officials. Columbiana County Children's Services was called.

pigsy the pig demon

In traditional Chinese Taoism, there is a divine goddess names Doumu Yuanjun (斗姆元君) who was acclaimed as the mother of all the constellations.. She has four faces while one of them is akin to a pig's face

In a modern day version, Zhu Bajie is a complex and developed character in a novel. He is called Pogsy, andlooks like a terrible monster, part human and part pig, who often gets himself and his companions into trouble through his laziness, gluttony, and propensity for lusting after pretty women.

Jpr: this concept is a familiar theme from many cultures where a demon is a pig.
