Love in the rain

Rain has fallen all the day.
O come among the laden trees:
The leaves lie thick upon the way
Of memories.

Staying a little by the way
Of memories shall we depart.
Come, my beloved, where I may
Speak to your heart.

POV, delusions, and contentment; a venture deep into experimental philosophy.

More than a year or so ago I injured my foot - complete tear of Achilles tendon.  Due to various obligations, I did not seek quick medical intervention.  When I finally did I spent many quasi-miserable weeks in treatment and recovery.  Unable to follow my routine of golfing and hiking I gained weight, got fat, lazy, and stupid.  Yes, I know that "stupid" is a constant in my life formula.
Got healed for the most part and have sloooooowwly eased back into an exercise regime.  TODAY I walked nearly 30 minutes (snail pace) and also took a half dozen whacks at a golf ball.   So in my mind I became the current version of the Mythical Irish Legend - Finn McCool.
Ain't Life Grand!
footnote: this is the picture I use on online dating sites.

Enjoy something now damn it!

red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme

Contrary to what many people assume, redheads did not originate in Scandinavia,Scotland or Ireland, but in central Asia. Their coloring is due to a mutation in the MC1R gene that fails to produce sun-protective, skin-darkening eumelanin and instead causes pale skin, freckles and red hair.

Neanderthals had a mutation in this receptor gene which changed an amino acid, making the resulting protein less efficient and likely creating a phenotype of red hair and pale skin. ... Modern humans display similar mutations of MCR1, and people who have two copies of this mutation have red hair and pale skin.

My fury knows no bounds.

Child sex dolls are available on the Internet, manufactured primarily by Japanese and  Chinese firms. Companies justify their 'commerce' as as safe outlet for pedophiles  and thus they feel no need to move on to actual children.  The same argument has been made for violent porno.  Unfortunately, my own experience with rapist, pedophiles etc is that  these 'items' serve to train them, motivate them and lessen self control when it comes to the real thing.  Interesting that the dolls are illegal in all English speaking countries except one.  Can you guess which one?

Primitive?

Many academics agree the Picts were descended from indigenous Iron Age people of northern Scotland. Archaeologists have been uncovering ornately decorated Pictish stones across northern Scotland for many years. Many scholars suggest their ancient creators painted the stones,as they did their metal work.  Lovely.

WOW

A sniper in the Canadian special forces shot and killed an Islamic State (IS) fighter from a distance of 2.1 miles (3,540m) in Iraq last month.  A member of Joint Task Force 2, he made the shot from a high-rise building.  It took the bullet almost 10 seconds to hit its target, The previous record was held by British sniper, Craig Harrison, who shot and killed a Taliban attacker from 2,475 metres in 2009 using a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle.

Cracked pot

St Paul writes that each person is like unto a cracked pot in terms of being righteous. Mother Angelica adds that it is precisely through our imperfections the light of Goodness is truly shared.

jpr: we the faithful call on the church to write/add the Book of Mother Theresa, and the Book of Mother Angelica to the New Testament.  Why the hell not?

The power of language.

Pte William Kemp, Cpl Sandy MacDonald, and L/Cpl James Wilson, Scottish soldiers caught behind the front lines in WW2 escaped their captors after convincing them they were from the Soviet Union. They ditched their uniforms in an effort to get back to their lines in France and when captured spoke only Gaelic, a language the Germans did not speak.  An atlas was produced, they pointed to the Ukrain, a German allie at the time, and were transported to Spain and released.

financial advice; invest now!

This morning I stopped at Dollar General to buy some underwear.  It's been about 15 years since I last purchased same.  As a person ages past a certain point it matters less and less if I've got my drawers on.    Sometimes I can't remember.  And other people understand.  They expect that I might be going "commando" at any time or place.  The reason that I decided to purchase some Hanes is that I've gotten tired of sitting around naked.  Alright that's not true but others are tired of me sitting around naked and so I figure wtf a little compassion for others probably won't kill me (Jesus couldn't say that).  So I go to Dollar General, knowing that my new underwear will already be broke in and a little threadbare (my preference) at the Generals.  I went to pay for my shit and had an enlightenment that I shared with the cashier and the others in line.  I said "when Kentucky Legalizes POT, Dollar General will be the first place to sell it.   Or so I hope.  Everybody laughed out loud but I wasn't joking.

An amazing factoid

Ireland unveiled a sculpture celebrating the financial contribution made by the Choctaw Native American tribe to starving Irish people in 1847.  At the height of Ireland's Great Famine, Choctaws in southern states of the USA sent a donation of $170, that would be tens of thousands of dollars today. The sculpture 'Kindred Spirits' stands in a park in the small town of Midleton, in east Cork.

Bahia emerald

Right now, it is in a vault controlled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, there sits a 752-pound emerald with no rightful owner.

Appraised at $400 million, it sits in custody hidden away in L.A.  Until legal ownership can be judged!

Congrats to the 'Big Yen" (the big one)

One of the funniest people ever, 75 year old comedian, actor, writer, Billy Connolly was knighted by the Queen this week.  Ship yard worker in Glasgow started out as a banjo act.  Well done.  According to a cop student of mine in Scotland,  he was well known to the police as they frequently found him wandering the streets in the early morning hours talking to himself even after he became famous. They always drove him home.

Climate Change FOOD for Thought! We are Carbon-based life forms.

Most of Earth's atmosphere is Nitrogen and Oxygen. By volume, dry air contains 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen,[1] 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. The amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is very small.  Recently it has increased to where it is now close to 4 parts in 10,000, by volume, and historically been @ 3 parts per 10,000.
Sounds Bad, doesn't it.  Not necessarily. This is still a minuscule amount when considered as a portion of the total atmosphere.  Carbon Dioxide is a TRACE gas.  But we don't like it and want to get rid of it.  If the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere were to become diminished by a mere 2 parts out of 10,000 there would be serious detrimental repercussions to the process of photosynthesis, hence to the health of Earth’s plant life and to the entire biosphere as a consequence. Plants, trees, crops do not just LIKE co2; they require it! It is their PRIMARY nutrient.   Human and all other forms of life would DIE if this process were disrupted.
CO2 is NOT a pollutant.  Yes, there are many man-made pollutants that negatively affect life but CO2 is not one of them.   So should we allow governments and politics have a crack at solving man-made "climate change problems?". We can scarcely predict tomorrow's weather.  It is though, 100% certain that government will screw things up.
