God Bless America

Herein Connecticut everything is closed (including churches) except for official gov't approved ESSENTIAL-CRITICAL functions.  As one would expect, fireman, police officers,  EMT's,  public transportation, media outlets, hospitals, markets and,  ready for this, LIQUOR STORES.  God, its great to be an American.

Hot Shit .....

Fireman where called to an usual fire at a pig farm in England.  The pigs, free rangers, ware pedometers to verify their 'free rangness.'   Apparently. one pig eat the other pigs unit.  His 'discharge' fueled by the pedometers copper batteries set fire to the pig-st.

A real hero

Giuseppe Berardelli, the main priest in the town of Casnigo, Italy died last week in Lovere hospital.  According to the hospital, he refused to use a respirator his parishioners had bought for him - choosing to give it to a younger patient, instead.  Despite the outrageous behavior of many priests and bishops, the Church still produces heroes.  RIP Father.

Today's Puzzler - Karma-lade?

Time's running out so I gotta make all the amends I can as quick as I can..  So far this year I've helped a rabbit, a crawdad, a spider, and a stink bug.

In the act of strolling around a field, hitting an occasional golf ball, mostly doing lollygagging reps for exercise, I came across a crawdad, about 4 inches long. tearing ass at crawdad speed of about a half inch for every step.  Puzzled was I because it was in the middle of a field, 300 yards from the nearest stream, and no one else around.  How did it get there; what was it doing?  Were you dropped by a bird not strong enough to carry you?  Were you released by some kid who let you loose in the parking lot - if so it must've taken all night to get where you were. Do birds like crayfish?  Perhaps sucked into a small twister then falling from the clouds?
The field is pretty barren; some weeds and scrub, recently brush hogged.  Can't explain how you got there but you sure was tearing ass like you knew where you were headed.
My first sad thought was good luck bub; you are nowhere close to anything - you're in the middle of nowhere - you're doomed.
I hit a few more golf balls then thought more about the crayfish.  I checked and it was still inching its way across the vast wasteland.  I admired that but it was fruitless I thought.  Karma reared its bald head and I felt compelled to try a rescue.  I put it in my cap and carried it several hundred yards (at great inconvenience) to the nearest small stream or "crick".  I let it go in the tall grass nearby and wished it well.   "Adios amigo".  I'm sure it would reach running water; and probably have to fight for its life to grab some turf from the resident crawdads, but I did my bit.  Now it was up to it.

Still I wonder how it got to be in the middle of an open field nowhere near water..

Breaking News

The first person in Connecticut has died because of the Coronavirus.
In his house they found 1000 cans of food, 50 boxes of pasta, 80 pounds
of rice, 300 toilet rolls and 50 bottles of hand sanitizer which he had panic
purchased from the supermarket and stock piled "just in case".
But he died anyway. The whole pile collapsed and buried him.

Hey the best cure is always laughter.

Another Important Holiday.

Nature-lovers are shedding their clothes and heading outside to mark World Naked Gardening Day. The event is celebrated on the first Saturday of May each year and encourages free-spirited gardeners to embrace nature in the nude.  Excuse me, got to get changed and plant some grass.

When grandchildren ask about the nation's dish
"is it haggis or whisky nips ?"
I'll lean back in my rockin' chair

Happy Friday the 13 th, or not.

Because Friday was the day of the crucifixion, Fridays have always  been regarded as a day of penance and abstinence. This religious belief spilled over into a general dislike of starting anything - or doing anything important - on a Friday.  To further compound the chance of peril, an urban legend started in the 1600’s that 13 people at a table were unlucky.   Theories suggest that the number of people at the Last Supper, 13, or the number required for a witches coven, again 13, gave rise to the practice.  The Victorians combined the 2 superstitions into the Friday the 13 legend.

bee in a flower

Bees get a positive electric charge on their bodies from their flights. Flowers have been found to store  negative electric charges. The resultant electric field from flower to nearby bee signals the honest presence of nectar and honey. Researchers have placed electrodes in flowers and recorded a bee's landing. The resulting flower's field change persists for some time signaling to other bees of a previous visit.

Celtic Thunder

Celtic Thunder is known for its eclectic style with songs ranging from a soloist to an ensemble focus. The group is backed by the Celtic Thunder Band on their concert tours, and their live shows are known for the use of dramatic effects via lighting and choreography as well as a stage set resembling an ancient stone pathway suggestive of those referenced in Celtic lore.

jpr: A group of Celtic lads all with exceptional voice. I  viewed them for the first time on dvd. If you can listen through the nonstop screams and squeals of the ladies in the audience then the quality of the men is appreciated.

smurf rally in france

3500 smurfs in one place.....blue space

Its coming. Its coming..

There is no time like Spring,
When life’s alive in everything,
Before new nestlings sing,
Before cleft swallows speed their journey back
Along the trackless track –
God guides their wing,
He spreads their table that they nothing lack, –
Before the daisy grows a common flower
Before the sun has power
To scorch the world up in his noontide hour
Christina Rossetti

More Yeats

When You Are Old by William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,

And nodding by the fire, take down this book,

And slowly read, and dream of the soft look

Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,

And loved your beauty with love false or true,

But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,

And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,

Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled

And paced upon the mountains overhead

And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

George Carlin

George Denis Patrick Carlin was born in Manhattan, the second son of Mary Beary, a secretary, and Patrick Carlin, a national advertising manager for the New York Sun. Carlin was of Irish descent and was raised a Roman Catholic

some of his quotes:

Always do whatever's next.

At a formal dinner party, the person nearest death should always be seated closest to the bathroom.

By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth.

One can never know for sure what a deserted area looks like.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Basset Hounds

  • Basset Hounds were bred to hunt in packs. Therefore, they are very social and affectionate. They are also calm, mild mannered, and gentle.
  • Most Basset Hounds enjoy the company of other dogs, pets, and family members and may even get lonely if frequently left alone for long periods of time. While they don't mind spending a lot of time sleeping, they also need daily attention and quality time with their owner(s).
  • Basset Hounds can be both sensitive and stubborn. They may get upset when scolded and at times may behave as though they don't hear your commands.
  • Basset Hounds have great endurance and can follow a scent for hours. But, since they also love naps and don't mind spending the day lounging around, they have a tendency to become overweight. Therefore, a Basset Hound needs regular exercise to keep its weight in check.

Piglet the wise.

"Where are we going Piglet?" asked Pooh.

"We need to get supplies," said Piglet. "For the Coronavirus"

"Ahh," said Pooh, nodding in understanding. "Things like bread, milk, cough mixture, tissues?"
Piglet did a little laugh, and a sort of leap and bit of a cough. "No," said Piglet. "No, those aren't the sort of supplies we need at all! What we need are family sized bags of chocolate buttons, massive toblerone, jelly babies and crunchies and a freezer full of stuffed crust pizzas, and all of the brandy we can possibly carry. THOSE are supplies."

All of a sudden, Pooh thought that the idea of coronavirus didn't seem quite so bad, and actually,  getting quarantined with Piglet and their supplies really didn't sound such a terrible thing after all. "Oh Piglet," said Pooh. "I really do think you are a very wise animal."

What can you say?

Freddy McConnell is surgically a transgender man, biologically a female at birth.  A single parent, he got pregnant and gave birth after he had legally become a man but before surgical alterations.  He has filed suit to be officially registered as the child’s ’father.’ The law requires that a person who carries and gives birth to a baby is legally a ‘mother.’  He argues the law is discriminatory. Sometimes this stuff just defies common sense

When at night I go to sleep

When at night I go to sleep
Fourteen angels watch do keep
Two my head are guarding
Two my feet are guiding
Two are on my right hand
Two are on my left hand
Two who warmly cover
Two who o'er me hover
Two to whom 'tis given
To guide my steps to Heaven.

The Irish make an art of 'holding a grudge.'

Three men have been arrested and a number of weapons seized following a disturbance at a funeral service in Strabane, County Tyron.   The men, aged 22, 32 and 17, were arrested following the service at a church. Weapons included Stanley knives, axes, hatchets and swords.  Somebody pissed somebody off.
