bansky (grafetti) art

bansky s girl with balloon

Banksy is a British street artist and activist who, despite worldwide fame, has maintained anonymity. Banksy’s art acts as cultural criticism and commentary, targeting established social and political agendas with a unique style of illustration made using stencils and spray paint. Banksy’s work is largely site-specific, often with an element of multi-media or performance as an accompaniment. “The art world is the biggest joking,” he said. “It’s a rest home of the overprivileged, the pretentious, and the weak.” Although details of the artist’s life are largely unknown, it is thought that Banksy was born in Bristol, United Kingdom, circa 1974, and started with a career in the city as a graffiti artist.Better Out Than In, Banksy’s month-long residency in New York during October 2013, featured a man selling the artist’s paintings for $60 each near Central Park. In 2015, Banksy opened Dismaland Bemusement Park, a temporary art exhibition that functioned as a theme park. After a 36-day run, its workers and materials were sent to the Calais migrant camp to build additional housing. Banksy lives and works in the United Kingdom.

Some of his street murals have sold in the millions.

re: Netflix's Heroin(e)

I have difficulty watching this film, it is so sad.  Huntington was once a great place.  No more.

About 10 years ago my youngest was out clubbing and someone slipped something into his drink.  He wound up comatose and in ICU for a week.  He has never been a drug user.  Toxicology found a little trace of alcohol in his system, but it was not able to determine what nearly killed him.

Sad sign of the times when...

People get really passionately fired up about whether or not a football player stands or kneels; and couldn't care less that the Gov't is ravaging the poor and defenseless folks.  Jesus Mary and Joseph, this is what Orwell was talking about.  There are people who are dying because of US Policies and the Story of Today is how many players took a knee.  BTW, Colin's original statement related to the poor treatment of Veterans.

Sologamy

An Italian woman has married herself in a ceremony complete with white dress, three-layer wedding cake, bridesmaids and 70 guests. The ceremony carries no legal weight.  Ms Mesi is part of a growing trend for self-marriage - dubbed "sologamy" - in countries around the world.  Proponents of such ceremonies say it is about self-love and acceptance, and claiming the social affirmation normally reserved for couples who wed. What can I say.

A farmer with a sense of humour

Gambling saves lives.

A 72-year-old man who collapsed at home on his own was saved by two betting shop employees who noticed he had failed to place his twice-daily £1 bet.   Retired chicken factory worker Michael Base, of Diss, Norfolk, UK was found after spending four days in a diabetic coma. Betfred staff Jamie Scales and Jack Bell became concerned when Mr Base, a regular for 13 years, did not turn up for several days. They found him at his home.  If betting saves lives, my father would still be alive at 95.

What a great gag.

A local US police department in Tennesse responded  ro reports that a man had been crushed by a garage door only to find the supposed victim was a scarily realistic, early Halloween decoration.

Love and stuff.

A British wartime bride and her Canadian veteran husband have died five hours apart - a month after celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.  George and Jean Spear met in 1941 at a dance hall near London, while he was stationed in Britain during the Second World War.  The couple passed away in an Ottawa hospital on Friday, both in their 90's.

The Mad Pooper

Colorado Springs Police are searching for a woman who has been seen repeatedly defecating in a neighborhood while out running during day light hours. The 'madd pooper,' as she has been dubbed, doesn't seem to care whoes around or watching.  Ahhh - life in America.

Walpurgisnacht

There has always been a bit of pagan ritual about....e.g. Frat parties complete with ale and debauchery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U10ftE4XQvo

Why didn't I think of that?

A Chinese company offering sex dolls for rent including a nurse, wonder woman and a school girl has withdrawn its services just days after launching. Touch had begun offering five different sex doll types for daily or longer-term rent on Thursday in Beijing but quickly drew complaints and criticism.

Spiritual center

The Tay River  at Dunkeld, Scotland just around the bend are the ruins of 8th century Dunkeld Cathederal, the center of Christianty in Scotland at that time and the home of the relics of St Columbia (Irish)  until the Reformation.  A simple hut church was known on this spot in the 5th century, and a Pick monestary stood on the grounds long before Christianty arrived.  The most spirtual place I have ever been.

More strange English sports --- gurning.

These handsome people are the winners of a 750 year old sport tradition called 'gurning' held every year in Cumbria, UK.  A gurn or chuck, in British English, is a distorted facial expression, and a verb to describe the action. ... In Northern Ireland, the verb "to gurn" means "to cry," and crying is often referred to as "gurnin'." Originally the Scottish dialectical usage refers to a person who is complaining.  You can't make this stuff up.

bird with snake

Before a bird will fly across a large body of water like an ocean's inlet up in Canada, they perch for a spell at the water's edge. They'll use that perch regularly.   Bald eagle up in Strait of Georgia often sat near our fishing camp. One day he arrived carrying big ole black snake home for dinner.

Farewell Sunil Gulati...one can only hope

Time for fresh perspective on USMNT (soccer). His reboot to 90s style is unacceptable.
                                    RIP Sunil.

That's one ugly fish

The body of the apparently eyeless animal was found on a beach in Texas City a week ago.   Its most striking features are it wide mouth of terrifying razor-sharp teeth and elongated cylinder-shaped body. e most popular opinion was that the animal was a fangtooth snake-eel, also known as the tusky eel, which is native to the Gulf of Mexico. Tusky eels live in waters as deep as 300 feet but occasionally swim into the shallows.

The bodies of hundreds of children are believed to be buried in a mass grave in Lanarkshire, southern Scotland.  At least 400 children, most under five,  are thought to be buried in a section of St Mary's Cemetery in Lanark.  The Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, which ran the home, refused to comment on the findings, citing incomplete records. The burial plot was uncovered in 2003 by two former residents investigating their abuse at the institution, Its increasingly dofficult to be a Catholic.

Yeti DNA

An ape like creature, taller than a human, that inhabits the Himalayan region of Nepal or Tibet.
The search to find the yeti can be traced back to Alexander the Great who demanded from villagers in the Indus Valley that he see one for himself
Test on hair samples were found to have a genetic match with an ancient polar bear, with scientists believing there could be a sub species of brown bear in the High Himalayas that has long been mistaken for the mythical beast..

Opps.

A Viking grave unearthed in Sweden in the 1880s had long been held as a prime example of the male viking warrior.  Clearly the grave of a high ranking person, contents included 2 horses, sword, an ax, shields, other battle regalia, and a board game.  Recent testing determined the skeleton to be that of a woman in her 30's,  The legend of female Viking warriors is long standing but this discover is the first to identify one clearly a VIking  leader.

Abbey in France a stalwart for Gregorian chant

              Saint Pierre de Solesmes Abbey

  listen http://en.gloria.tv/?media=363996

The contemplative monks, 55 of them, inhabit the monastery that hovers over the village of SOLESMES, France. The monks' dedication to Gregorian chant dates to the 19th century, when the monastery was refounded as the Benedictine abbey of St. Pierre de Solesmes, after having been closed after the French Revolution.

My hero

German waiter smashes beer carrying record - again .  Oliver Struempfel spent months of training to carry as many full one-litre mugs  (29) as possible for a distance of 40m.

being an old man

“Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?", here's an update for you. Nowadays 80%of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!”
― Andy Rooney

“When You Are Old"

WHEN you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.”
― W.B. Yeats

the moments that take our breath away." George Carlin

Courage

The University of Southern California’s long-snapper, Jake Olson, delivered a flawless extra-point snap for the No. 4-ranked Trojans in their win over Western Michigan on Saturday.  Olson, a sophomore, took the field with about three minutes left to play for the Trojans and delivered the snap without any issues for a kick that put USC ahead of Western Michigan 49-31.  Routine?  Hardly.  Olson is completely blind since childhood, and a regular scholarship member of the team.  You got to praise him, the coach and the team.

rows of flowers

Oh, the envy for the bee!
The Flowers by Robert Louis Stevenson
All the names I know from nurse:
Gardener's garters, Shepherd's purse,
Bachelor's buttons, Lady's smock,
And the Lady Hollyhock.

Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames--
These must all be fairy names!

Tiny woods below whose boughs
Shady fairies weave a house;
Tiny tree-tops, rose or thyme,
Where the braver fairies climb!

Fair are grown-up people's trees,
But the fairest woods are these;
Where, if I were not so tall,
I should live for good and all.
