Nuns out of control

Two women tried to rob a bank in the Pennsylvania dressed as nunsOne of the women brandished a gun as she demanded money during the incident at a bank in the town of Tannersville on Monday. Both were wearing black nun's habits and veils and one was wearing sunglasses.  Sir Nicodemia is not a suspect.  She had an alibi.

Lost at Sea

Recent US Navy incidents are a fluke that requires investigation.  The sophistication of the Electronics involved and the high level of training and diligence of multiple sailors tell me that something is awry.  Every sailor I've ever known, even the slovenly and decrepit, is aware of the great responsibility of staying alert to protect the lives of their shipmates.  Yes there might be an a-hole who ignores this but its never left to a single sailor.  There are redundancies plus redundancies.  Throw in some state of the art electronics and you have a nearly fail-safe system.  The Captain could be drugged up on Oxycontin or Bourban or Mushrooms and the "Watch" will still function as normal.  Letting another vehicle run into your ship is unheard of, unthinkable.  And its happened again and again.
This isn't a question of someone asleep at the wheel.   It's a question of who's mucking with the gear!!!
RIP Shipmates

Ya see, exercise is very risky.

Renowned body builder, Dallas McCarver, has died at the age of 26,  at his Boca Raton home.
No foul play is suspected at this time and police are now awaiting the medical examiner’s report.  The 300 pounder’s girlfriend is WWE superstar Dana Brooke, McCarver’s girlfriend.  Police denied rumours that his body exploded.

The redeeming power of Christ

William Aitcheson,  a Catholic priest in Arlington, Va., is temporarily stepping down from his ministry after revealing he was a member of the Ku Klux Klan and burned crosses more than 40 years ago before joining the clergy.  The 23-year-old University of Maryland student, was identified as an “exalted cyclops” of a KKK lodge. He was charged in several cross-burnings in Prince George’s County, one count of making bomb threats, weapons charges,  and two counts of manufacturing pipe bombs.  He served several prison terms. The diocese was aware of his background.  He is described by supporting parishioners as an excellent priest.

New toe wrestling champions have been crowned this weekend after the unusual competition was held in Derbyshire.  The World Toe Wrestling Championships, which is like arm wrestling but with feet, was held at Bentley Brook Inn, Fenny Bentley, Derbyshire.  Alan "Nasty" Nash won the men's competition for the 14th time and Rebecca Beech won the women's title.

History is constantly being rewritten yet...

"The flap over the Confederate Flag is not quite as simple as the nation's race experts make it. They want us to believe the flag is a symbol of racism. Yes, racists have used the Confederate Flag, but racists have also used the Bible and the U.S. Flag. Should we get rid of the Bible and lower the U.S. Flag? Black civil rights activists and their white liberal supporters who're attacking the Confederate Flag have committed a deep, despicable dishonor to our patriotic black ancestors who marched, fought and died to protect their homeland from what they saw as Northern aggression. They don't deserve the dishonor."

Stan Rogers - Canada's best ever

The perfect German/Russian voice

  1. The guy s vocal range is 4 and 1/2 octaves....unimaginable.
  2. July Andrews had 4 octave range.
  3. Roy Orbison had 3 octave range.

I was looking at myself in the mirror, checking out my features which have kind of degraded from age and sloth and sinful living.  Feeling a little low, I sez to my wife "I'm fat, wrinkly, out of shape, and kind of ugly.  Tell me something good about me."

She sez " your eyesight is darn near perfect!"

in Flanders Fields

Money Trees!!!

in several wooded areas (in Cumbria and Portmeirion)  around the UK, people have been stopping for at least several decades if not longer to hammer coins into trees.  The practice may date back to the 1700's when in Scotland ill people stuck coins into trees in hopes of taking away their sickness.  A similar practice in the US puts a different spin on it - people who are looking for a cure for their chronic penury and discontentment put coins into mechanical traps in and around Las Vegas.

My back 10 acres supports at least three (3) adult black snakes. Since I relocated two (2) which I believe are a breeding pair, the bunnies are everywhere. Take heart yee gardeners, I've seen a baby black moving about.

Hundreds of people gathered in Suffolk for the ninth annual World Thumb Wrestling Championships.  Competitors from America, Poland, Germany, Australia, India and South Africa joined local "athletes" for rounds of thumb-to-thumb combat in the hope of taking the world title.  The "sport" is based on the popular children's game and is played in rounds on a wooden board resembling a wrestling ring.Paul Browse, from Lowestoft, Suffolk won the men's competition, with Becca Anne, from Gillingham, Norfolk claiming the ladies title.

My kinda church.

A run-down city center pub has been restored to its former use by a church in what is thought to be a UK first.  The Mitre Pub in Norwich, first licensed 150 years ago, was put up for sale 18 months ago after a brief period as a Chinese restaurant and takeaway. The neighbouring St Thomas Church has spent about £600,000 restoring the building to become a public house once more.  Church workers also plan to use it as a base for their work to prevent human trafficking and funds raised by the pub will go towards these projects.  It will sell craft beers and will also serve as a coffee shop.

The tom jones of India

Hello, is anyone home?

A US clothing company has come under fire after T-shirts appeared online featuring swastikas in a move aimed at reclaiming the symbol as one of "love".  The swastika, which means "well-being" in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, was used by the Ancient Greeks, Celts, and Anglo-Saxons as a symbol of peace.  It is believed that it was used at least 4,000 years before it was adopted by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s and appeared on the Nazi flag.

Its a funny world

A Chinese  restaurant is offering discounts to women depending on their bra size.  The Trendy Shrimp restaurant, located in Zhejiang province. showed a line-up of cartoon women in their underwear with the slogan "The whole city is looking for BREASTS".  It listed discounts for women depending on their cup size, with greater offers available to women with bigger busts.  General manager Lan Shenggang defended their sales strategy. "Once the promotion started, customer numbers rose by about 20%".

An ancient voice....assyria

the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and Pope Francis attended the religious ceremony at the country’s most revered church together, where Father Serafim and the parish chanted in Aramaic language. This impressive chant performed along with the 12-year old girl in the language of Jesus went viral on social networks.

38-year-old Father Serafim is Assyrian and Aramaic is his native tongue.

Mom's Trick

When we were little and would not go to sleep, Mother would stand at the bottom of the staires, in the dark and recite
'Onc’t they was a little boy wouldn’t say his prayers,
So when he went to bed at night, away up stairs,
His Mammy heerd him holler, an’ his Daddy heerd him bawl,
An’ when they turn’t the kivvers down, he wasn’t there at all! An’ they seeked him in the rafter-room, an’ cubby-hole, an’ press.

Did you know

The longesst word iun the English language is 'pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" a word invented in 1930 that refers to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of very fine silica particles, specifically from a volcano; medically, it is the same as silicosis.

The kinglet

The kinglets or crests are a small group of birds sometimes included in the Old World warblers The scientific name is derived from the Latin word regulus for "petty king" or prince, and comes from the colored crowns of adult birds.

The kinglets are found throughout North America. There are two types, one being the Golden-crowned Kinglet and the other is the Ruby-crowned Kinglet. These small forest birds are heard more often than they are seen with their song...Zee..Zee..Zee as they migrate south for the winter.

jpr: heard'em in the back field recently!

The internet has gone udderly wild for a Texas calf's uncanny resemblance to Kiss frontman Gene Simmons.  The baby cow, named Genie, was born on Friday at a ranch in Kerrville, Texas, and even likes to stick out its tongue like the rocker.

Priests thrown out of pub.

A group of trainee priests dressed in clerical attire were evicted from their favorite Cardiff pub, mistaking for a stag party in fancy dress.  The seven Roman Catholic seminarians had gone to The City Arms to toast Father Peter McClaren's ordination when they were asked to move on.  The pub has been plagued by rowdy stag parties wearing costumes and does not allow them in.  The manager recognized the mistake and all had a good laugh as they drank on the house.
