Two Roman Catholic Priests went down on the Titanic, according to witnesses, as Catholics, Protestants and Jews gathered around them taking part in the final religious service on the sloping deck of the Titanic as she was heading down. Acting as lead clergymen was Rev. Thomas R. Byles of Westminster Parish, London, who was on his way to NY to officiate at the marriage of his brother. The other priest who was never identified. Byles twice turned down seats in life boats as he heard confessions and worked to calm the crowd. He was shirtless during the final ceremony as he had given his to a poor man freezing in a lifeboat.
