Famous 1909 murder solved.

File pic of Joe Petrosino
In 1909 Lt. Joe Petrosino, a famous New York city police detective, an Italian immigrant and the first police officer to investigate the mafia, was shot dead in the street during a mission to Sicily to collect evidence.  His murder remained unsolved until last month.  During the recent arrest of 95 suspected members of two clans involved in extortion rackets in the island's capital Palermo, one of those arrested was recorded boasting that his father's uncle had carried out the killing. ‘He killed the top policeman on the orders of Cascio Ferro’, the head of the mafia and the subject of the detective’s investigation.  Ferro ran a gang in NYC as well. The case is now the oldest cold case ever solved.
