- Hindus believed that it was unlucky for 13 people to gather in one place;
- Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, 14th century, he says "and on a Friday fell all this mischance."
- Many negative biblical events took place on a Friday, including the ejection of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden and the start of the Great Flood.
