So why Friday the 13th?

  • The pope slaughtered the Templar Knights on Friday the 13th;
  • Witches meet in groups of 13 (a coven);
  • Jesus was crucified on a Friday;
  • Friday was the traditional hanging day in England;
  • There were 13 people at the Last Supper;
  • Judas, who betrayed Jesus, is thought to have been the 13th guest to sit down to the Last Supper;
  • In Norse mythology, a dinner party of the gods was ruined by the 13th guest called Loki;
  • Hindus believed that it was unlucky for 13 people to gather in one place;
  • Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, 14th century, he says "and on a Friday fell all this mischance."
  • Many negative biblical events took place on a Friday, including the ejection of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden and the start of the Great Flood.
