Cheers for France, Cheers for Socialism

In the new world of technology, work does not stop for many when they leave the office.  Job  emails continue with, for many, expectations that they will be dealt with regardless of the hour or day. Now France, home of the legally mandated 35 hour work week, has decided to act. It has introduced rules to protect about a million people working in the digital and consultancy sectors from work email outside office hours. Those are taken to be before 9am and after 6pm. The deal signed between employers federations and unions says that employees will have to switch off work phones and avoid reading emails and firms are prohibited from demanding otherwise.  And France is not alone.  VW, for example, prohibits all emails from 30 minutes after and 30 minutes before the work day.  VIva la liberte.
