Amish Farm and Homestead

An Older Order Amish farmer from western PA, was recently offered $500,000 for the natural gas rights to his land.  Older Order Amish believe that modern devices such as phones, tvs, automobiles, electricity, etc create a chasm between the individual and God.  So they live as simply as possible - horse and buggy; make your own clothes and candles and cheese, etc.

The farmer turned down the offer.  His explanation:  "What would I spend it on?"
