The Phaistos Disc





The Phaistos Disc, discovered  in 1908 in Crete, remains one of the world’s great archaeological mysteries.  About 6 inches in diameter, the unique fired clay disc dates to the second millennium BC. Covered on both sides with a total of 243 stamped symbols consisting of 45 repeating characters, its purpose and meaning remain a mystery.  Scholars generally accept its age, and assume it is an as yet unknown language,
