As we celebrate Shakespeare's birthday (late April 1564) let us recall some of his more than 2,000 contributions to the everyday language; ever been ‘in a pickle’, waited ‘with bated breath’, or gone on ‘a wild goose chase’, referred to jealousy as ‘the green-eyed monster,’ used ‘the be-all and end-all,’ ‘fair play,’ ‘a heart of gold,’ the world’s mine oyster,’ ‘bedazzled,’ ‘gloomy,’ ‘grove,’ sanctimonious,’ ‘ a foregone conclusion,’ 'seen better days,’ ‘a sorry sight,’ ‘swag,’ ‘strange bed fellows,’ ‘full circle,’ and ‘freedom of expression.’ And the list goes on. Happy Birthday Will.
