The English have more oddities than one can count. The village of Whittsley holds the Straw Bear festival every year on the second weekend of January, Men dressed from head to foot in straw, ‘the Bears,’ led a parade around the streets with attendant "keepers" and musicians, followed by traditional dance troupes. Centuries old, no one understands why. But almost identical festivities in Germany, Austria and Poland are held to chase winter away. Oh well, to each his own.
