My conversion to Deism has allowed me to look more critically at Church practises. Here's one you have never heard of, Consecrated Virgins, Brides of Christ. For more than 50 years the Church has recognized and sanctified a category of lay women, not nuns, who marry Jesus in a formal wedding ceremony. They wear wedding rings and pledge to live there civil lives as virgins. There are about 250 in the US, including nurses, teachers, a psychologist. The 'calling' is not open to men. I wonder if anyone else finds this strange.
