A South African Catholic nun, educated in England, she rose to fame as an art critic and host of a series of BBC/NPR art programs in the 90's. A delightful, charming woman, she was discovered by a BBC crew while giving a school group lecture in a museum and became one of the most famous critics in the world. With papal approval she left her order to become a consecrated virgin and hermit living in a camper on the grounds of a Carmelite monastery. An early supporter of gay marriage, she once said 'We should respect our church, but never believe that the church has the last word. The spirit of the Church is the meaning of love, which hasn't yet, perhaps, been fully understood.' Dead at 88. RIP
